A Pastor's Perspective 06-18-2024
We have been doing a review of the Scriptures that the Kamau’s encouraged us with during their time with us at the beginning of the month. Today we’ll look at the third Scripture that Wallace talked about when asked, “What Scripture do you hold onto in hard times?”
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. - Romans 8:28
One of our staff members shared with me recently that she didn’t get into the college she wanted. Her family had attended and been die-hard fans of a certain local sky-blue university. Sidenote: I am told that sky blue is God’s favorite color. I am still looking for the scripture to back that up. Double Sidenote: I do know that words crimson and white as well as crimson and tide appear in our hymn book, but whatever. Back to the story of this staff member who desired to wear sky blue in an argyle pattern. She had worked hard and did all the right things to get into that school. But she did not get the letter of acceptance. At the time, that was certainly a disorienting and crushing blow. Yet today she can see how God worked this disappointment to His glory and her good.
We should absolutely plan and order our lives with diligence and care. We should pursue our dreams and future we desire. However, they will not always work out the way we envisioned. Things in this life do not always go as planned and many times unmercifully unravel. Yep, it sounds glib. But hear again Wallace's "hold onto" scripture, "God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God." (NASB). Not all things are good. Rather, God causes all things to work together for the good of those he loves and are called according to His purposes.
So, as we walk through this life, which is full of setbacks and even pitfalls let us remember:
Looking forward,
Blake

- He is greater, and He is in you. - I John 4:4
- The good meant for you will not be denied you. - Psalm 84:11
- Even the bad things that happen to you or around you will be used by God for good. - Romans 8:28
