A Pastor's Perspective 06-04-2024
What a great conversation we were a part of Sunday! Talking with Wallace and Mary Kamau, and hearing what God is doing through them in Kenya was exciting and humbling. We saw and learned in a fresh way what it looks like when God works through us.
During the conversation they brought up three scriptures. We will focus on the first one in today's article. The Kamau's brought these scriptures up in response to this question, "When difficult times come, what are the scriptures you ‘hold onto’ that helps you get through those difficult times?” Mary, in the first service, referenced I John 4:4.
It reads, “Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” (ESV)
For the vast majority of humanity, life is tough. It has been that way for most of human history. Difficulty is no new thing. This could be taken as a negative statement or a gloomy outlook. It is neither. It is simply the reality. History proves it, and the daily news cycle affirms it.
However, listen to John's words coming to us in the middle of this tough world, "... greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world." (NASB)
If you are a follower of Jesus facing the pressures of life in this tough world, ponder this: the presence of Jesus’ Spirit in you is not overcome by pressures of this tough world. The person in you is greater than that pressure outside of you. Rest in that and be recharged.
As we face what life has for us this week, I’m praying that you experience life, joy, and wonder as you follow Jesus (see John 10:10).
Looking forward,
Blake
